Wilder Kaiser Loop via Scheffauer (10:50h, 1834hm) ⚫

A long round trip through the Wilder Kaiser massif, starting and ending in Kufstein. The route follows Wanderweg 814 up to the Brentenjoch Alm (3h from Kufstein). If you prefer less elevation, take the RB54 at 07:46 (arriving Kufstein 08:58) and ride the Kaiserlift up (EUR 17.50 one way) - and meet us at Brentenjoch Alm., includes the Widauersteig (grade A/B) to the Scheffauer summit (2,111 m), then descends via the Stöfflhütte (short stop on the way down - homemade cheese and buttermilk) back to Kufstein.

Rated T4 - this is a very demanding tour: long distance, nearly 1,900 m of elevation gain, exposed terrain, and the Widauersteig via ferrata (1h climbing, rockfall risk in the couloir section). Only suitable for experienced, fit hikers. Not suitable in wet or icy conditions.

Trail conditions (as of June 2026): A 2025 rockfall left a section of Steig 814 near “Wasserloch” difficult to pass (“erschwert passierbar”). The full closure has been lifted, but only provisional rope anchoring is in place. No bypass exists. Permanent repairs are expected in autumn 2026. Suitable for those with alpine experience and appropriate equipment.

Note: the southern descent via Hintersteiner See is closed indefinitely due to a separate rockfall.

If you join by train, I assume you have a Deutschland-Ticket. If not, get a ticket in time.

Make sure you have all the required gear with you, especially helmet and via ferrata set - this is non-negotiable for this tour.
